Tyronne Brewster

(Business Agent)

 

 

 


 

  Tyronne graduated from Harlem Academy in Clewiston Florida,  He received a scholarship at Bethune Cookman College  in music and just as  school began,  he was drafted  by the Marines.  Tyronne served  as a Marine from 1968-1969 achieving the rank of Lance Corporal. He was based  just north of the DMZ from September of 1968 through October of 1969. He received several medals for his duty in the Viet Nam conflict: the Viet Nam Presidential medal. American President metal of Accommodation from the USMC; and the Purple Heart as Tyronne was injured while saving a comrade while under fire.  Discharged in 1969,  Tyronne started work at  Sealtest Dairy  and became  Chief Shop Steward  with  IBT #198 in 1970.  In  1975-1976 IBT #198  merged with IBT #769  and in 1983 Sealtest closed. He then went to work for Borden Dairy in 1983 and maintained his position of Chief Shop Steward.

   
In 1989  Tyronne was offered  the position of  Business Agent  with IBT #769  which he accepted.  In his capacity as Business Agent, he negotiates and services 13 contracts under the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).  The members he services are employed in dairy, bakery, linen, uniforms, clerical, periodicals, food and warehouse, in the positions of plant, inside mechanics, outside garage mechanics, maintenance, tractor trailer drivers, route sales commission, hourly sales and clerical

personnel.

    Tyronne also is a policy committee member on the Teamsters National Bakery Conference as well as a policy committee member for the Teamster National Dairy Conference.  Both of  these  conferences cover  policies in all 50 states and Canada.   A delegate to the South Florida AFL-CIO since 1989,  Tyronne was elected in 1994 as Recording Secretary.  He is 1st Vice President to  the South Florida C.B.T.U.  (Coalition of Black Trade Unionist), and is and Executive  Committee Member on  the M.L.K. Labor and Community Coalition.   He is a lobbyist for the  Florida  AFL-CIO
United Labor Lobby  working to get good legislation for Florida's working people.  Tyronne is a trustee  with  the  Dade  County United Way  and has been a member of the NAACP since 1990.
 

     Tyronne and his wife Pauline have three children, Canzetta, Lolanda and Samantha.
