John Sherman

(Business Agent)

Born in Queens, New York, John grew up in a family of Teamsters.  After completing high school, John himself joined the Teamsters Union and in the early 90’s moved to South Florida with his family. In 1995, he found employment with Rinker Materials in Pompano Beach Florida as a block truck driver.  After working as a block truck driver John cross-trained on a mixer truck and later became a front-end loader operator.

John served as a shop steward for many years and volunteered to assist Teamsters Local Union 769 in organizing campaigns as well as political.  In 2000, John was involved in the Presidential recount for Broward and Palm Beach County.  In 2003, Local 769 sent John to Iowa to help assist the International Brotherhood of Teamsters with the Democratic Caucus.

In April 2004, President Mike Scott hired John as the local’s first organizer. John later became a business agent and is currently representing the following companies: The City of Fort Lauderdale, Rinker Materials, Power Mix, Miami Transfer, Waste Management, Marks Brothers, and the Village of Key Biscayne Police Department.  John is currently part of the Broward, Palm Beach, and Maritime C.L.C.

John is a Teamster at heart and believes that being a Teamster makes a difference. He works hard at representing the members and knows that in unity, there is strength.
